It’s been a while since I’ve written about pieces of my life puzzle. (Please read: Why read my blog, About me, Welcome to My Blog) An important piece of the puzzle right now is the coming of my sister-in-law to live with Dio and me. Having her stay with us has meant revisiting my favorite spots. My friend Gale invited us to visit the Erie Canal in Pittsford, NY. It’s only a 20-minute drive from Gale’s home. Local tourism can be a practical way to save money yet at the same time, it can be an experience of a lifetime! Let me bring you along a recent experience…
It was the first week of July 2022, and it was a great day to visit the canal. The temperature was in the low seventies and a beautiful blue sky dotted with fair weather clouds was as blue as ever.
We had lunch at the “Simply Crêpes” café along the Erie Canal outside on their balcony under an umbrella at the table to shade us from the sun. The cool temperature made it worthy to eat outside.
Once we had lunch, and leftovers were put into “doggie bags”, Gale put them in her parked car while Myrna and I crossed the street to a chalet by the canal. It was Wednesday and there were no crowds. Myrna was wearing a mask, but Gale and I felt safe enough to not wear them. The intense sun was hitting us directly. The shaded part of the Erie Canal was on the opposite side of the canal. As a result, we decided to move the car to the other side.
Once across the bridge, we finally found a parking spot across from where we had lunch. Walking down the steps to the canal, music floated to our ears. I was excited and curious to see who was playing music by the canal during the middle of the week.
It was a two-man band of electric guitars. We agreed that the instrumental music played was relaxing and exceptionally good! It was a pleasant moment to listen while sitting on a picnic table near the band.
The picnic table was in a perfect shaded area by the canal where a ferry and small boats floated by. Ducks and Canada Geese swam with their families enjoying the weather! Our conversations made us reminiscent of the “good old days” and the good times of our youth which had us laughing and giggling like young girls on a field trip.
Again, the cool temperature, light breeze, and music helped provoke a playful yet relaxing ambience.
To end the day, Gale took us to downtown Rochester to the High Falls bridge. Myrna and I had never been to this part of the city. We loved the scenery of the gorge in the middle of the city! Gale was impressed with the new construction and buildings. Myrna and I were totally delighted with this extraordinary outing with Gale. We all agreed that we must do it again soon!
What an excellent addition to the puzzle of my life’s journey. When you’re with someone new to the area, it gives everything a new perspective. When you share it with your friends, it makes it even more remarkable! I am grateful to God for such a beautiful day in which we were able to relish every moment of nature and our friendship!
